Build An Inexpensive Home Gym

Build an inexpensive home gym and you can save time, money, and boost workout productivity. According to fitness experts, people who workout at home are more dedicated and tend to be more consistent and push themselves a little harder than those who workout at the gym. The best part is you don't not a lot of fancy expensive equipment to get started. All you need are five basic pieces of inexpensive equipment and a couple of fitness dvd's or workout posters.

Reebok Speed Pac 25 Adjustable Dumbbell Pair
This is the most basic and necessary piece of equipment for home workouts because you can workout every single body part including legs. Your best bet is to get adjustable weights. This saves space, saves time, and is less expensive than buying numerous individual weights. If you're going to buy individual weights keep in mind that chrome or solid dumbbells tend to be expensive unless you buy them used. Vinyl and neoprene dumbbells are more affordable and less likely to damage your floor if dropped by accident. You only need to buy 3 pairs of weights; a light weight to work shoulders, and abs, a medium weight to work arms and chest, and a heavier weight for working legs, glutes and back. A weight tree or dumbbell set that usually includes 3 different size weights (3lb 5lb 8lb) is great for beginners.

Stability Ball
A fitness ball can also be used as a bench to perform chest, shoulder, and arm exercises. The added advantage is that you constantly have to stabilize and balance which works out your core muscles (abs, back, pelvic muscles). These cost anywhere from $15-$30 and are one of the most versatile pieces of equipment around. They provide the most variety for working abs and glutes, and they make push-ups and lower back work a little easier.

Resistance Bands
These are awesome especially for working on shoulders, chest, and arms. You can buy a set for as little as $20 that includes different resistance latex tubes, door anchor, nylon carry bag, and exercise guide. It’s a great option for beginners, the advanced, and a must for travelers who want to stay in shape on the road.
