Should you change your look? Only if you want to! It's actually a loaded question. Sometimes changing your look is a good thing, like when that size 10 dress no longer fits your size 14 body. Or when your hair style makes you look older. But these are changes that you decide to make, not changes that are forced on you by manufacturers in order to sell you new items.
Maybe the question should be, why do you change our looks or think you should? Is it because you're reading magazines or listening to talk shows that tell you how you should look? There's nothing wrong with change or enhancing who you are but only if it's done on your terms.
You want to lose 10 pounds? Great! But only on your terms and because You want to. There are other ways to make changes in your life. Want to travel the world without a male companion? What's stopping you? There are ways that this can be done. A friend of my daughters wanted to go to Turkey. The question from everyone that knew her was, why Turkey? She wanted to go some place that no one else in her space had traveled. So she went with a tour group. Had a great time and didn't have any problems as a women traveling without a male companion.
The trip also changed her look. How so? She came back looking radiant, more relaxed and feeling very confident about herself.
What are you looking for when you want to change your look?
Are you seeking approval from someone? Have you been led to believe that you're not fine just the way you are? There's nothing wrong with a new hair style, a new shade of lip stick or pair of jeans. However, when you become obsessed with these new items and feel that you have to have the latest trend in highlights or slim jeans every week, then you have a problem.
Typically when you shop till you drop or must have the latest new gadgets every week, the change you seek becomes more serious. It could be that you're looking for You, just in all the wrong places. Are you trying to fill a void, so you make possessions your quest? Could it be that the change you seek is more of a spiritual connection to your inner you?
One thing's for certain, no matter how many things you buy or shades of lipstick you try, the best way to change your look is to change the way you feel about yourself. Only confidence in who you are will allow you to move about in the world with style and grace. Confidence is what gives you the ability to enter into a room, never saying a word and be the center of attention.
So if you think it's necessary for you to change your look, how about beginning with the way you look at yourself.
