All life is energy in different forms. Everything we perceive as solid, when magnified down far enough is energy, vibrations and frequencies. The quality of our vibration, and energy field depends on the thoughts, and beliefs we emit. Yoga, and breathing, can be used to keep our energy vibration strong, and positive. It is also helpful for moving chi(energy) consciously through the body, and clearing any areas that are blocked.
In this way, yoga can be likened to active acupuncture. When the movements are slow, conscious, and in harmony with the breath, we assist the body’s natural energy flow. Working in this way opens the body’s natural invisible channels; the chakras, nadis, and meridians which in turn bring health, and balance to our lives.
Deep, rhythmic, and natural breathing is an important factor to help keep our chi strong. It quietens the mind, and regulates the adrenal glands. When the breathe is shallow, and high up into the chest, we are more likely to feel like we are on heightened alert. We trigger the fight or flight mechanism, which results in stress, anxiety, and disease within the body.
Practicing yoga in this way can bring peace, balance, and harmony to the mind, and body. It is simple to enhance your yoga practice, and magnify the benefits received. Take time to visualize a smooth flow of energy moving through the body with each posture. See it clearing all areas, while bringing new energy and vitality to you.
To bring attention to your practice, try this simple exercise:
When you feel an area that is tight or tense;
• Stay calm and relaxed.
• Remember that you are energy underneath the solidity of the body.
• Keep your attention on the breath.
• Turn your attention to the area that is tight and visualize it filled with energy until you feel it is flowing.
• Once the tension has shifted, try to deepen the stretch using your breath.
You may not be used to visualizing, and energy is not something tangible that is easily imagined. If this is the case, try to see the tense area filled with light or whatever you are happy visualizing. Sending loving kind thoughts to the area also helps. The chi will flow where you put your attention.
Focusing the attention in the way described is how people have healed themselves of illness. They direct positive energy to their body, see it healed, and believe in the healing. Using yoga can greatly assist the healing process as the addition of movement helps keep circulation flowing, as well as physically moving the chi.
I like to use this every time I practice yoga. It brings a deeper awareness to each posture, focuses the mind and assists with increasing flexibility. It’s not only beneficial to your yoga practice, it can be incorporated into every aspect of life. If you are experiencing a headache, or any other kind of pain, this simple practice of directing your attention positively will reap rewards.
