About the BellaOnline Yoga Editor

Iīm a Northeastern U.S. native, happily living in South Florida for the past 25 years. I met and married my husband here 23 years ago and we have 2 children ages 22 and 17. Iīm 52, and feel that the best years are yet to come!

My first experience with Yoga was purely a conceptual one. I faced a number of difficult experiences in less than one year and I felt strongly that I needed to find a way to "go inside" and bring peace and quiet to my life. When I needed to brave the loss of family members and help my young son deal with the challenges of autism, I simply made time to practice stretching, deep breathing and directing my attention to those actions alone. Yoga became the progression of what started out as simply quiet time to think pleasant thoughts and be positive; although at the time I didnīt technically set out to meditate thatīs just what I was doing.

That was 14 years ago and since then Iīve earned a number of certifications in fitness modalities, as well as a degree in Fitness & Nutrition itself. My Yoga certification is very special to me as I achieved Expert Level through the internationally recognized testing organization, Expert Rating, which is based in the birthplace of Yoga itself - India.

What I believe Yoga to be, above all else, is a way to create a special time in your day for healthy, beneficial thoughts and movements. Practicing asanas is only part of what Yoga for life means. Incorporating the peaceful discipline of Yoga into virtually any activity you can name adds more dimension and benefit to that modality. Be it jogging, biking, aerobics or archery - there is no activity, physical or mental for that matter, that doesnīt already include aspects of the Yoga philosophy. When a person comes to understand that better, and focuses on how Yoga can be of further benefit, this Ancient Art comes alive to them in a very modern way!
