The popular Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown is now a counting book. Her book has been a beloved bedtime classic for generations. Children love reading about Bunnyís preparations for sleep. Or shall we say, Bunnyís plans to stall sleep. The Bunny says a goodnight to many objects in his room.
Goodnight Moon 123 by Margaret Wise Brown is an activity book. This not a board book for sleepy infants and toddlers. It is an early concept book. Babies use the board book to learn to count and recognize numbers. The familiar drawings and paintings by Clement Hurd soothe the child as she learns her numbers.
One quiet old lady whispers hush. Two little kittens scamper. Three little bears adorn the page. Use Good night Moon 123 or the bilingual edition Buenas Noches, Luna 123: A Counting Book/Un libro para contar to start counting. Children will recognize Clement Hurdís animal illustrations. They will love to count the many objects.
I recommend the board book since infants and toddlers will use Goodnight Moon 123 to learn the early concepts of counting and recognizing numbers. Board books can withstand the wear by young children. Also, small children have poor motor skills at this age. Their fingers can manipulate the thick pages easily. The board book counts to a hundred. Therefore, parents and educators may need a more basic book for a baby. However, remember that they will grow into it. Start the child with the numbers: one to ten, then expand their knowledge. Yet, Goodnight Moon 123 is available as a picture book. Good night Moon 123 is fun, fun, fun.
