We all know the feeling, We get out of bed and dreading the day ahead we throw on our baggiest, worst fitting clothes. We drag ourselves out the door and head to work. The day only gets worse from there until we head home and plop ourselves in front of the T.V. with a pint of Ben and Jerry’s.
Whew, I am depressed just thinking about it! So how can we change a day like that? Start with that first choice we made, our clothes. Choosing to wear ill fitting clothes decreases our sense of worth. They shout to the world, “I don’t care about me and neither should you.” It’s true. Our clothing can affect how we feel about ourselves.
Start by choosing bright colors. You don’t have to wear a red dress but maybe choose a nice piece of red accent jewelry or red lipstick. Feeling frantic? Blue is a calming color and can be worn by almost everyone. Green, since it reminds us of nature, tends to ground us and yellow is cheerful and will bring a smile to almost anyone’s face. Again, you can just add an accent piece to bring these colors into your wardrobe if wearing too much color is not your style.
Next wear clothes that flatter your body. We all have body parts that we like, so choose to show them off a little. You also can wear clothes that will help cover those areas you are not as pleased with. Choosing the right outfit which makes you feel your best physically will go a long way in changing that “down in the dumps” feeling you may have had when you got out of bed. Also by wearing clothes that fit well, you won’t spend your time fussing. Pulling this down over here and re-adjusting that. Clothes that fit don’t need constant adjusting.
How’s your foundation? Seriously! When you wear well fitting, pretty under garments you will not only look better, you will feel better about yourself. If you haven’t had a bra fitting in a while, go in and get one done. They are free and you may discover your bra size has changed. If your bras are uncomfortable you will definitely want to get this done. While bras and panties have a practical function, that doesn’t mean that can’t be pretty. Wearing color, prints, lace, all help to make us feel like the special women we are.
Take some time and clean out your closet of those old, ill fitting clothes that you no longer wear. Donate the ones that someone can use and toss out the rest. Just doing this will help you resist the temptation to dress in “whatever” just to get out the door. Clothing tells the world in a single glance how you are feeling about yourself. So choose the clothes that shouts out, “I am an amazing, wonderful person and I know it.”
