Starting Martial Arts in September

September marks the start of a new school year and, for parents, often the mad dash to find new and exciting ways to keep their young ones entertained after school. For some, that equates to music or dance lessons, for others it might be Martial Arts.

Martial Arts in its truest sense is more than just a sport, it is a way of life. So very often, Martial Arts schools remain open throughout the year and new students can start at any time. But there are many programs that cater to the school-bound student and begin their programs in September. To herald in the new school year, many Martial Arts schools offer introductory programs and registration nights much like dance or performing arts schools.

Thus, while there is no limitation as to when you can start Martial Arts, September is a great time to get children involved. Being involved in Martial Arts is a great way to boost confidence, develop coordination, socialize, build discipline and many other helpful aspects which have come to be associated with any extracurricular activity. And in todayís day and age, most importantly, it gets kids out from behind the computer or in front of the TV and active.

Martial Arts also gives children skill sets that will stay with them throughout their lives, even if they do not continue with the arts later on. To this day, I have many friends who took Martial Arts as a child and they still speak fondly of their time in the Martial Arts as well as what skills they learned during their training. While everyone is unique, for many of my friends, the themes all echo back to being fit while they practiced Martial Arts and carrying a sense of discipline still today from those early days of training.

So parents, as youíre looking around for things your children can participate in after school come this September, why not consider Martial Arts?

Even if itís not September, you can start Martial Arts at any time and youíre never "behind the class" because Martial Arts isnít about competing with your fellow classmates; itís about your own development and well-being.
