Happy Holidays

The holiday season is upon us once more. Regardless of what religion you celebrate, or if you don't celebrate at all, this time of the year is about remembering to give and be thankful for all you have in your life.

In our Martial Arts training, we are taught the importance of community. As I've noted over and over again in these threads, Martial Arts is about more than just punching and kicking. It's about more than the combat or the dojo. Martial Arts is about the whole mind, body and spirit experience. Being able to give and spread the spirit of the holiday season is very much a part of being a great Martial Artist.

So while you're enjoying your own holidays, take some time to think about the less fortunate. Take time to think about your loved one, especially those that can't be close to you during this time. Take time to think about your neighbors and friends, all those that touch your lives every day. Take time to think about the connection we all have and how each of us can effect one another in both positive and negative ways. Take time to think about the positive and how to use the good energies around us to make this coming year an even better one for each of us.

As we embark on the New Year, consider what your goals might be for yourself this year in Martial Arts. Make sure to incorporate into part of that the idea of giving to others. This can come in many forms, from literal giving of time and money to organizations which help others to teaching on the dojo floor. As the old saying goes, "it's better to give than to receive." And the benefits you'll gain from giving will come back at you in the New Year with bringing you to becoming a better Martial Artist.

And if you're not a Martial Artist yet, consider making this New Year your chance to start down this wonderful path. This is a chance to make yourself a stronger and better person. In this time of great stress and pressures all around us, it's nice to have something to fall back on that can help you throughout the year and your life.

Have a Happy Holiday everyone!
