No Excuses - A Book Review

If you could pick one aspect of your life to improve, what would it be? Is it your family? Would it be your health? Perhaps your career? What if you could find a personal coach for all of these areas all in one place? The Power of Self-Discipline - No Excuses by Brian Tracy offers guidance in 21 different life areas.

If you could pick aspects of your life where you needed more discipline, what would that aspect look like today? What would it look like in the future? For example, what if time management was one of the areas that you struggled with the most? For many, poor time management is the root of so many other issues. As Tracy states in his book, “Time management is really life management, personal management, management of yourself rather than time or circumstance.” This theory holds true. If you were in control of how you spent your day, how much more could you get done? How much more free time would you have to enjoy life?

No Excuses focuses on many of the variables that contribute to poor time management including:

Assessing the value of everything that you do during the day.
Focusing on the “return on investment” for all of the tasks that you perform.
Taking time to think before you act on any activity that consumes a lot of time.
Prioritizing your tasks in order of true importance.
Understanding the consequences or the importance of a given task.
Learning how to keep yourself focused.

The time management chapter provides valuable insight and exercises on how to improve your time management skills through self-discipline. Also provided at the end of each chapter, are additional action exercises to lead you through the principles discussed in the chapter.

Why “no excuses?“ So often people procrastinate on the very things that could work to their benefit. Tracy lets you know that if you really want to succeed, the time for procrastination and excuses is over. No one can make the change but you. Imagine how successful your life, family, and career would be if you could increase your self discipline in just a few of the areas covered in the book.
