About the BellaOnline Bereavement Editor

Rev. Jaclin Meade Scott grew up on the Southside of Chicago. A phrase she often heard from her Irish relatives was "Death is part of life". She thought everyone approached the end of life the way her culture did. She learned differently as she experienced more of the world. But her comfort with the subject makes her the one sought out by those involved in the death process, either for themselves or a family member. Able to put people at ease on this usually taboo topic, she goes right to the hard questions. Nor does she shy away from hard answers. Her treatment of the issue is practical as well as compassionate. Those who consult her are often surprised to learn that humor and death can co-exist, while honor and dignity are maintained.

Because a lot of people are uncomfortable with death and its process, help is not often sought in dealing with it. These people can spend years not progressing through the grief process, not knowing why they just donīt feel like themselves. The good news is, this forum can help. Letīs talk!

A public high school teacher for many years, īJaciī finally gave in and went to seminary at age 40, and was ordained in 1998. Three years in a congregation were followed by years as a hospital/trauma chaplain. She is a certified grief counselor, and eligable for Chaplain Board Certification. She is the author of "Quiet Cradle, How to help someone after the loss of a child through death, adoption, miscarriage or surrogacy"; "Death Well Done, Comforting your family and leaving a legacy"; and a fiction work, "Soles of the Road: How All Those Shoes Ended Up on the Highway".

She and her Partner live in Mesa, Arizona, where Rev. Scott is Pastor of a UCC faith community called NotYoMamasChurch.
