About the BellaOnline Boy Scouts Editor

Scouting is a passion for me because it was the vehicle that showed me that there was a huge world beyond the steel town in which I grew up. I am an Eagle Scout and I have four sons who are also Eagles.

We grew up in the Indian Guide program so my Cub Scout knowledge is less extensive than my Boy Scout and Venturing knowledge. I have worked with Cubs for years, have extensive contacts in that group and believe I can address any questions you might have.

Through the years I have been fortunate enough to hold numerous positions in Scouting. With four other dads I was instrumental in starting a new troop and became the first Scoutmaster. Several years later I helped form a new Venture crew. On the District Committee I have been the Advancement Chairman, the Training Chairman and the District Vice-Chairman. I tell you this only so that you can get some comfort level that I can resolve most of the issues you might have.

I love to go camping and do Dutch oven cooking. Hopefully through this site we will be able to increase our recipe stores and improve our cooking techniques. One thing about Dutch oven cooking- when it’s done, most people are too hungry to complain about the food. Usually it tastes really good anyway.

As a Scout I went to a national Jamboree in Colorado Springs (now some of you know how old this Scouter is) made a trek to Philmont. I was fortunate enough to be able to make three additional Philmont treks, so I got to go with each of my sons. If you get the opportunity to go with your child, GO! It’s a shared experience you will never forget. And now with Venture crews, moms and daughters can go too.

Over the years I have attended several training courses, including Wood Badge. I took the old course and was an instructor in the new course. Training for your Scouting position not only makes you better qualified to do that job, it also makes you more comfortable in the position.

I hope you find the site of some benefit. It will grow as we learn more about the things that are important to you.
