About the BellaOnline British Television Editor

Hi – welcome to the British TV site on Bellaonline. My name is Eileen O’Sullivan, I am a British free lance writer, and I love to watch TV. I couldn’t be happier than editing this site. Reading through some ‘how to improve your life’ type exercises the other day I was asked – if your life was ending, what would you wish you’d done less of, and what would you want to have done more of? My immediate response was – I wish I’d written more, and watched television less! I grew up in a typical two up two down (as us Brits call them) red brick terrace, a modest house adjoined to many other houses, all the same. Think of our much loved soap Coronation Street – and you get the picture. I did my homework watching telly (as TV is known affectionately in Britain), I read watching telly, and I went to bed listening to its soothing tones downstairs. TV was the background to my life – and when watching Elton John or Rod Stewart live on Top Of The Pops in my youth, it definitely came to the foreground!

I left university with an honours degree in American Studies, and became News Editor of English magazine Beatbox - writing about pop videos and still hooked on the small screen. I consider mainstream British and American TV to be the best in the world, and I hope to unite the two on this site – let’s embark on a trans-Atlantic voyage and discover the best of broadcast visual media, brought to you by the good old telly in the corner of your lounge, or emblazoned across one wall!

So, I’ve rethought my reaction. At the end of my life I want to say I’ve had a thoroughly satisfying time. The TV has been a friend and guide, my comfort in hard times and my companion during fun times. I will look back and say – I’m glad I watched lots of TV – and then wrote about it!

Please let me know what you love about British TV, what you’d like me to cover – and even what makes you run screaming at the screen to switch over RIGHT NOW!
