I was born and brought up in Bristol, in south west England. I have also lived in Canterbury, Clevedon, London, Reading and Southampton. Some of my favourite English places and attractions include Avebury, Glastonbury Tor, the Globe Theatre, Haworth, Maiden Castle, Shrewsbury, St Paul’s Cathedral, Stonehenge, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick Castle, York Minster and Westminster Abbey.
I am interested in historical traditions, and the monuments/artifacts that have remained in England as testament to ancient cultures. I love ruined castles, stone circles and the beautiful chalk figures carved on hillsides such as the Westbury White Horse and the Cerne Abbas Giant.
I studied English for my degree and have always loved books and writing. I have found it interesting that over the years the fiction books that have stayed with me through move after move have been written by English authors - a lot of them are childrens books which I can read again and again.
I am delighted to have the opportunity to explore and write about English Culture. I believe it is a fascinating subject and would welcome your comments/ideas about what you would like to see on this site.
