About the BellaOnline Greek Food Editor

Yiassas (Hello),

Im Georgina Vanezis, a Mother that loves to cook for family and friends. I learnt to cook mainly from my Mum, Grandmother and my many Aunts who often gathered in my Grandmothers kitchen and cooked together. As a child I would help with chores in the kitchen and use to love to watch the camaraderie that went on between them. My love of food comes from those women, who sadly have now passed away but their memories live on in these recipes Ill be sharing with you.

When I write about Greek food I am also going to include Cypriot recipes from the beautiful island of Cyprus, where I was born but left when I was nine to settle with my family in London. On the southern part of the island the language of Cyprus is predominantly Greek and the religion is Greek Orthodox, making the celebrations and customs similar to Greece. I will also share with you some of our customs and culture.

As an immigrant living in London, I feel I have one foot in Greek culture and the other in British culture. Although I have lived happily in the UK for a long time I spent most of my summers in either Greece or Cyprus where I see family and old friends, friends I went to school with, before I emigrated. Also going back in the summers gives me the chance to learn even more cooking skills and also get some much needed sun.

Now Im retired, after many years of working as a HR Manager and after my daughter has flown the nest, I would like to spend time writing about Greek food.

When Im not cooking, I m usually behind a camera, as my other passion is landscape photography.

As your Greek Food Editor, Ill share with you as many Greek recipes as I can and answer any questions you may have.

So together, lets share our recipes and stories.

Kali Oreksi! (Enjoy)!
