Rachel presently lives in Ankara, Turkey with her husband and children. They lived in Afghanistan for almost 10 years where they rented a private home in an Afghan neighborhood. She speaks Spanish, Dari, and is learning Turkish, enjoys Afghan and Turkish tea, and wore a chadar when she shopped in the local bazaar in Kabul, but lives more westernized in Turkey.

She and her husband have been involved in aid work while living in Kabul. She has traveled in over 50 countries of the world, including Israel, Egypt, Pakistan, Afghanistan, U.A.E., Turkey, and India.

Besides writing the Middle Eastern Culture section in Bella Online, she is the webmaster for About Afghanistan. She wanted to portray the beautiful side of Afghanistan... different from what is commonly seen in the news.

She holds a Masters degree in Education and is working on her doctorate in religious studies. She loves to read, take hikes, and bake cookies for her children (she eats some, too!).

She and her husband Bob provide cross-cultural training, coaching, and consulting for international businesses, NGO´s, and private groups. They are international partners with Cerny-Smith, providing the CSA assessment, Intercultural training, and country and culture specific cultural equipping and acquisition.
