I served four years as an officer in the U.S. Army, one of which was in Iraq, and now focus my energy on writing and managing the home while my active duty husband is deployed. From ducking mortar fire to explaining to my son why his Papa cannot make it home for his third birthday, I have experienced both ends of the spectrum and must say that being a military wife is much tougher than being a soldier. Worrying incessantly for two 15 month deployments has turned more than one hair on my head grey!
My husband has spent six years in the Army and plans to retire in fourteen, so we expect to be immersed in the military world until at least 2026. Our next assignment is to Okinawa, Japan and I am looking forward to basking in the sun on the exotic beaches while writing my next article for BellaOnline.
Military families are inundated with pamphlets, briefings, and government websites, but sometimes it is difficult to find someone from the inside to answer a basic question like, "What is a military ball and what am I supposed to wear?" My goal for this site is to provide a "real world" information source for military families as well as a glimpse into military life for those curious civilians considering a military career.
