Since that time I have worked in public school districts as a Reading Specialist, Reading Recovery teacher, and Dyslexia Specialist.
In 2009, I wanted to learn more about struggling readers, so went back to school again and earned Certification in Special Education. I am currently working as a special education teacher for grades K-4.
My curiosity and passion for teaching and learning is wide. I have also taught adults in a Developmental Reading course at a local community college, and after earning a TESL Certification taught sheltered reading classes for grades 4-6.
Writing is also something I love to do. I have worked as a freelance writer for the secular and Christian education markets, including creating teacher materials, curriculum, test-preparation items, workbooks, and online content. I have two books for children in current publication, and have written short stories and devotionals.
My home is filled with reading materials of all sorts – books, computers, magazines, and even an eBook Reader – constantly being used by my four children, husband, and myself. We live on an island in the Northwest, and besides reading, we also take time to explore this beautiful place with our two dogs.
