I’m Michelle, your editor and fellow reader. I love to read. My experience with books started when I lost vision in my left eye at an early age. My parents were told by doctors that I would more than likely never read well, write well or draw well. They were wrong. My parents had a plan. Two months into kindergarten, I read Charlotte’s Web.
Today, I am an editor, author and illustrator. I learned all of these skills through reading. I have also discovered new worlds and new friends in the pages of books. I have found characters I love, and characters I love to hate. I correspond with authors, illustrators, and review books online.
My favorite place is my local library! Librarians are very smart individuals, and they love to talk about books, characters and plots! They also always know where to direct me when I want to learn a new skill or explore different cultures and worlds.
I read real books, ebooks, billboards, ads, menus . . . this list goes to infinity for me.
Why did I choose to write for the Reading Site? I want to share my passion, possibilities and absolute need for reading. I view reading as a mixture of the Six Questions - Who, What, When, Where, Why and How? These six little words are the key to our world and ourselves. Learning to read and being able to answer these questions through comprehension and understanding, are extremely important to our development, education, employment and overall survival. I plan to write and discuss reading topics for all ages, for all reasons.
Libraries are important, reading at home and reading at an early age are important. Reading levels can effect individual neighborhoods and communities. Reading is a key to language and knowledge. Digital technology has afforded us many changes, both good and bad. We can read on all our devices, read online, and even connect with other readers all over the world. Alas, in the digital world, it seems our texts and messages are getting shorter. Conversations are often held with emoticons. Fewer words may lead to more misunderstandings. I believe text and message “Reading” needs to make a comeback!
This is your site. I would love to hear your ideas, questions, suggestions, and reading lists. I look forward to hearing from you!
A Tad Bit More About Me:
My husband and I live in Ohio with two rescue cats and two rescue dogs. The dogs are new to us and we are first-time dog owners. They had been abandoned and abused. I sat with them for hours reading novels, picture books, magazines, and poetry. I believe this helped in gaining their trust and never-ending love. I still read to them, and often the cats wander into the room for story time. I also have a passion for red licorice and I write, play, and sing parody songs on my concert ukulele.
