About the BellaOnline Roses Editor

Rose gardening became a hobby for me about seven years ago. I had recently relocated to a new “cookie cutter” style neighborhood and decided to purchase some bare root roses as a way to beautify the yard. Some of them grew and developed into beautiful mature rose plants while others passed on for various reasons. What this simple trip to the garden center managed to accomplish though was the start of a definite rose addiction.

Since that point I’ve relocated cross country and completed the Master Gardener certification in Florida. Now I’m relocating once again to Virginia, where I plan to volunteer as a Garden Assistant with the Norfolk Botanical Gardens.

Due to the transient nature of my husband’s career as a Naval Officer I’ve maintained a variety of gardens in a range of climates. I’ve been able to create rose gardens that range in size and style from small city backyards to country gardens that cover half an acre. These experiences have allowed me to grow a large variety of roses and encounter most rose gardening issues that can occur.

There has been aggravation and tears from Japanese beetles and black spot, but there has also been incredible beauty that has brightened the day for myself and others. Anyone from the city dweller with a balcony to the first time gardener who needs a bit of extra help can have a rose garden. I’ll be here to encourage your interest with a variety of articles and also to post answers for any questions you may have.
