Sarmatism in Poland
The belief about ancient origin of Polish nobility created unique version of Baroque style. Sarmatism influenced painting, clothes but especially culture of nobility in the country.

Kalwaria Zebrzydowska Sanctuary
The sanctuary in Kalwaria Zebrzydowska dates back to the beginning of 17th century. The calvaries as such started, however, in 15th century in Spain. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska can boast also of 16th century monastery and painting of Holy Mary.

Jagiellonian University
Krakow Academy was founded in 14th century and was soon changed into University. It attracted known teachers and smart students that brought it fame and prestige. Even though the crisis of the country influenced also university, it is still thought to be the best university of Poland.

Bishop Stanislaw, the first Polish Saint
The legend about life and martyrdom of the first Polish saint, bishop Stanislaw, became known throughout Poland. Historical truth, however, differs from those stories as the legend of the bishop was created by opponents of the king who convicted Stanislaw.

Superb Polish castles
Various castles are spread all around the country. Some of them feature only remains, while others are fine examples of gothic, renaissance or baroque architecture. The trails, such as Eagle Nests or Piast Dynasty Castles, acquaintance the tourists with those architectural masterpieces.

Nativity Scene in Poland
The Christian tradition of building Nativity Scene is very old. Since ages people would build models. Some of them became pieces of art as they depicted local architecture, clothes and conditions more similar to those in Poland than in Bethlehem where Jesus Christ was born.

Maximilian Maria Kolbe, Polish Franciscan
This Polish Saint Franciscan was born under the name Rajmund Kolbe, in 1894 in Zdunska Wola, in a poor family of physical workers. His father worked in a factory while his mother led a shop (later on she worked as a midwife).

Barborka, the nameday of Barbara
Nameday is a traditional celebration, similar to birthday, that is spent among relations and friends. St Barbara's nameday offers, however, balls, feasts and orchestra marches that take place on that day, especially in Silesia region where there are many mines.

Veit Stoss, talented artist of Polish Gothic
Every epoch has artists that changed the face of art (or given style) in a certain place. The same was with Polish Gothic carving that could not imagine better artist than Veit Stoss. His works remain the greatest medieval pieces of art ever.
