I'm a research buff and also like many of you, just love to read a good book. Being a thyroid disease patient, I have special interest in books about thyroid disease and conditions co-morbid to it. Do you have a book in print you've written on these subjects that you would like me to review?

While most cases of hypothyroidism are caused by the immune system, some patients experience a type called "Central Hypothyroidism". This condition of low thyroid hormone, is due to a failure of the pituitary gland, in regulating thyroid function.

While TSH is a highly diagnostic test and detects thyroid disorders earlier than any other blood test there are cases in which it will miss some cases of thyroid hormone imbalance. When diagnosing and treating hypothyroid patients the T-4 and T-3 levels should also be tested initially.

In this article I discuss the sometimes hard to address subject of libido (sex dive) and the effect thyroid disease can have on this area of a patient's life. Deecreased libido can be concerning and depressing to a thyroid patient. Fortunately thyroid hormone therapy & other treatments can help!

Hair loss is one of those symptoms that can be of special concern to thyroid patients. No one wants to believe they are losing all of their hair. This symptom can be one of many intial symptoms indicating thyroid disease but it can also be a temporary side effect of thyroid hormone therapy.

Thyroid cancer is a relatively rare type of thyroid disease, it is however a very serious disease and not to be taken lightly. People with nodules (tumors) on their thyroids, should have them evaluated by their doctor to rule out cancer. About 5% of thyroid nodules contain cancer (malignancy).
