Jodi Picoult - Author
Jodi Picoult is taking the world by storm with her riveting novels. I discovered Jodi's books one day when browsing through the local library looking for something new and different to read. It was around Halloween and the book club that meets at the library had Picoult's book Salem Falls as the month's selection. Normally the books the club picks don't catch my attention but this book really caught me. It is a story about a man who was accused of molesting a teen girl at the school he taught at. After losing his job, he settles in for a new life. He finds the same accusations following him to this new town.
I happened to find another novel by Picoult shortly after reading Salem Falls that was a real gem and I read it in 2 days. Plain Truth was a lot better then I expected. It is a drama based on a story of a teenage Amish girl who is accused of killing her baby even though she swears she never gave birth to the baby. I didn't think a story about the Amish would be interesting. Picoult actually spent time with an Amish family in order to make the story as believable as possible.
Picoult writes amazing stories that draw you in and makes you not want to put the book down. She has so far written 15 novels that include:
Songs of the Humpback Whale (1992)
Harvesting the Heart (1994)
Picture Perfect (1995)
The Pact (1998)
Keeping Faith (1999)
Plain Truth (2000)
Salem Falls (2001)
Perfect Match (2002)
Second Glance (2003)
My Sister's Keeper (2004)
Vanishing Acts (2005)
The Tenth Circle (2006)
Nineteen Minutes (2008, debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list)
Change of Heart (2008, also debuted at number one on the New York Times bestseller list)
The Pact, Plain Truth, and The Tenth Circle have been made into Lifetime Original Movies and My Sister's Keeper is in production to be a feature motion picture.
She studied creative writing at Princeton and finished a masters degree in education at Harvard. She became the writer of DC Comics' Wonder Woman (vol. 3) series following the departure of fellow writer Allan Heinberg. In her novels, she makes readers feel they are a part of the life of the character. You become absorbed in the events that are happening. I highly recommend any of her books but be prepared to sit and read for a long time as it is truly hard to put her novels down when she sinks the hook in!
