Interview with Melissa Foster

Last week, I wrote a review for a book called Megan's Way. It was one of few books that made me cry. I have been talking to the author, Melissa Foster, ever since she sent the book to me. She is such as sweet lady. She agreed to answer a few questions for us.

How did you come up with the story line for Megan's Way?
Megan's Way began as a story called "The Wish." When I first began, it was almost the same story line, but my mother's surgery played a big part in Megan's Way. As you may have noted from the back of the book, my mother had surgery years ago and decided not to tell me that they thought she had cancer. She also decided not to tell me that if it had been cancer, she was not going to get treatment. Thankfully, she did not have cancer. She filled me in on her little secret years after the surgery, and that devastated me. What? How could you leave me?! As The Wish was developing, I wrapped that painful moment into the story. The rest blossomed as I wrote.

What did you find most difficult while writing your story?
Megan's Way came to life all on its own. I was very lucky, because when I wasn't sure where the characters were heading, they showed me the way. The most difficult part of the writing the story was figuring out if Olivia should be told about her real father. I won't go into detail here because it would ruin the story for those who have yet to read it, but that was by far the most difficult part.

In the story Megan shares an awesome psychic connection with Olivia, her daughter. I know you are the mother of 6 kids. Do you share a connection like this with any of yours? What prompted you to put this into your story line?
Answering this could quite possible cause readers to think I'm bonkers! LOL! I think every parent has a certain connection with their children, however I do not share this connection with any of my children. I have, however, had visions that have come to fruition, and that's all I will say about that:-)

What do you hope your readers take from the story of Megan's Way?
I hope readers come away with many feelings after reading Megan's story. I hope they believe in a connection with their loved ones after death (in the spiritual sense). I hope they will be thankful for what they have in their lives, and realize that one shouldn't judge others too harshly because you never know what's going through someone else's mind.

Was self-publishing a difficult task?
It was a torturous decision. I did not make the decision to self-publish lightly, however, it became apparent that the publishing industry was being effected by the economy as harshly as every other industry, and my goal was to have people read my stories, not to make a buck, so I took this path to get Megan out there. It was more scary than difficult. As I've mentioned before, having a book published is a little like standing on the street corner naked-your'e not sure if people will whistle or throw eggs at you.

Thank you for your time!

Jeanette, thank you so much for reading Megan's Way and for giving me the opportunity to share Megan with your readers! I love hearing from readers and would be happy to connect with book clubs for discussions about Megan's Way!

Megan's Way has a book trailer! Go watch it. It will make you want to read the book!

Melissa is doing a blog book tour in September. For more information about this tour and where you can win copies of Megan's way, see Melissa's website.
