Celebrated on August 15th, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was defined ex cathedra, meaning it is considered infallible, by Pope Pius XII in 1950. It was, however, believed and celebrated long before this time.
The doctrine of the Assumption states that Mary was assumed body and soul into heaven.
