Praxis Test For Librarians

The Praxis test is required in many states for those wishing to serve as school librarians. What can you expect from the test?

The Praxis exams are a set of rigorous exams for educators. The test for librarians is designed to test in the subject area of librarianship for grades kindergarten through 12. The test does not presume that one has a masters in library and information sciences. It is designed for the library media specialist operating independently at the school level. That means no other librarians and no staff.

The Praxis exam covers five different categories of knowledge on the 120 question test:

  1. Program Administration
  2. Collection Development
  3. Information Access and Delivery
  4. Learning and Teaching
  5. Professional Development, Leadership, and Advocacy

An in depth over view of the test is available at the ETS website in pdf format.
