Wierd Canadian Laws

Wierd Canadian Laws
In “Weird Canadian Laws Strange, Bizarre, Wacky & Absurd” author Lisa Wojna has arranged for our reading pleasure some of Canada’s most crazy and unheard of laws from both past and present. If you are looking for something light, easy to read, humorous and even a little bit educational then be sure to pick up this book.

Did you know that it is against the law to startle the Queen, or sell her a defective toaster? I bet you did not know it was against the law for a resident of the Northwest Territories to own more then three pets (even if one of them was a hamster) unless of course you were forming a dog sled team. If you did not know about these don’t be embarrassed Wojna has definitely done her research, finding hundreds of laws that even most Canadians had no idea existed. She has organized many subjects and categories covering everything from transportation, to bell wearing cats. I can assure you that you will be scratching your head and wondering “why the heck would they need a law on this”. The answer is because someone somewhere has given reason. Meaning once upon a time John Doe decided it would be a great idea to trade in his pet dog for a pet lion.

I found this book entertaining but did find some areas a little dry and hard to get through and I will admit I ended up skipping through a few pages. Though this is not the best quality in a book it is not completely bad either. The book covers such a wide area that it can hit a very wide audience, what I didn’t find interesting in the book others may view it as their favourite part. The beauty of the book is that you CAN skip ahead and not feel as if you missed anything. Read it from cover to cover or skip back and forth from subject to subject, however you decide to read it you are sure to find something of interest.

Despite the cartoon cover art that gives the impression of a kid’s book I found it to be based more towards a Teen and Adult audience. There is nothing obscene or “R rated” inside, I just simply found that it would be hard for older children to follow and simply impossible for younger children.

Weird Canadian Laws is a “bathroom reader” style of book, meaning it is easy to read and will provide you with plenty of interesting conversation pieces.
