Up to the Minute Fashion - Short Hair

Up to the Minute Fashion - Short Hair
Short hair is HOT this season. Besides being up to the minute in fashion, it is always fast and easy to style, drying quickly and falling into its stylish shape. Many people shy away from short hair because they are afraid it may not offer enough options in styling, but as you will see, this style can be styled in at least three different looks.

This very fashion forward style can be combed down flat or close to the head for a conservative and casual look, but it can also be spiked up all over for fullness. No need to use a curling iron in either option. These pictures show the spiked styling.

It is cut at about two inches all over except at the front hairline. The bangs and the hair in front of the ears is left slightly longer. The hair at the nape area is cut straight across and can also be left longer if desired.

To style the cut in this fashion, shampoo and condition with body building products. Apply firm hold styling foam all over. Use a blow dryer in random directions to dry the hair quickly. Comb the bangs down smoothly and to the side. Comb the sides down close to the face.
Apply texturizing hair crème or hair wax to your hands and run your hands through your hair in a scrubbing motion to cause the hair to stand up.

Not shown: For a softer look, the ends of the hair can be curved over instead of standing straight out. You will need a narrow flat iron for this style. After spiking the hair up all over, pull the flat iron through each strand in an arch formation. This will cause the ends to curve over instead of curling completely around as with a curling iron.

The hair color of this style is also fashion forward and completes the avant-guard effect. One inch of hair at the front hairline is tinted light brown or dark blonde. If your hair is darker than that it will need to be lightened to a medium blond shade and a toner applied in the desired hair color.

All the rest of the hair is lightened to an extra light blonde. Your hair may lighten to the perfect shade of blonde but often there will be too much underlying red tone to achieve this shade of pale blonde. If it retains a yellowish or golden cast, apply a beige blonde toner.
