Legoland California & Sea Life Aquarium
Guest Author - Barb Conley

Legoland California is a 128-acre interactive theme park that celebrates LEGO(R) bricks, those colorful plastic interlocking blocks that give kids of all ages hours of creative fun and some pretty spectacular results. Aimed at families with children between the ages of two and 12, the park has over 50 rides and attractions plus special events like the Junior Master Model Builder Competition.

The park is organized by themes and each has its own interesting offerings. Bronte, a nine-foot tall, 34 foot long, bright red Brontosaurus dinosaur is among the first things that will catch your eyes as you enter the park. He's made out of more than two million LEGO bricks. That's just the beginning, you'll see over 15,000 amazing LEGO structures throughout the park. You can roam between Land of Adventure, Pirate Shores, Castle Hill, Fun Town, Explore Village, Dino Island, Miniland USA, and the Imagination Zone.

For example, Pirate Shores is all about water fun, from shooting and dodging water cannons in Splash Battle to the Soak-N-Sail water slides. In Explore Village, life-size Lego elephants, giraffes and other animals greet you on a jeep safari. You can ride the Dinosaur coaster or travel through the enchanted forest on a Lego horse in Castle Hill.

There's lots of fun and learning to be had in Fun Town - here you can be a fire team, learn to drive a Lego car or boat, and take Lego factory tour. In Miniland USA, prepare the Lego builder in you to say "wow!" Twenty million Lego bricks have been used to construct a 1:20 scale model of seven regions of the United States: Florida, Las Vegas, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco and Washington D.C.

In the newly opened Land of Adventure, you can time warp back to 1920s Egypt on a quest to recover stolen treasure from ancient temple ruins.

There's much more to Legoland including special shows, events and displays. Of course you can buy Lego blocks in bulk too.

The entrance fee is not inexpensive, so you'll want to take advantage of the AAA Discount of 10% off per ticket. If you live in the area and plan to visit a few times a year a membership may be an economical way to go. Tickets and memberships can be purchased online.

Heads-up: The 50 rides and attractions are included with a general admission ticket, but a few specialty attractions such as the Wilds Wood Golf and Raptor Splash require additional fees. There are a variety of restaurants on site to quench your thirst and refuel your energy, but outside food and drinks (like a picnic lunch) are not permitted in the park. Lines can be long - off season and non-holiday weekends are your best bet.

Legoland hours are... complicated. It's best to visit their website or call ahead (760) 918-5346.

New at Legoland California - The Sea Life Aquarium is designed to teach children aged two to 12 about our oceans. Sea Life combines over 200 live marine species and 72 Lego models to present exhibits and interactivity that explore Lake Tahoe, the California coastline, the Lost City of Atlantis and more. Entrance to Sea Life is not included in the Legoland entrance fee.
Visit the Legoland website for ticket pricing and hours.

Happy travels!
