Russian Tatting Books

Russian Tatting Books

Nina Kurbatskaya's "Frivolite"

This terrific hardback book of tatting patterns has 104 pages and over 30 full color plates! The patterns run from traditional collars and doilies to antique reproductions, large items like tablecloths in the Italian style of "Il Lavoro Chiacchierino", edgings wide and narrow, and dozens of single motif building blocks.

Although the text is in Russian, the close-up detailed photos and numbered diagrams make tatting these patterns a snap! Estimated price $26 plus postage.

Klejmenova's "Frivolite"

This is a scholarly technical tatting instruction hardback book with 240 pages. 7" x 9" is size, it also had 16 color plates.

When it comes to tatting these patterns, however, the language of the text does not matter at all. The patterns have a photo of each lace piece and a well illustrated diagram clearly marked with the stitch counts. It even marks the path of the split rings where used!

This is not just a pattern book. It contains instructions in step by step illustrations showing all basics plus use of picot gauge, Josephine knots, block tatting, split ring and how to read diagrams, too. Est. $28 plus postage.

Tatiana Utkina's "Frivolite"

240 pages of tatting treats (no color) which will teach the beginner the basics of tatting construction and lead them into intermediate designing. Familiar traditional patterns.

Although the text is in Russian, the close-up detailed photos and numbered diagrams make for easy tatting. Unfortunately, the book is paperback and printed on newsprint type paper. Some beading and interesting use of tatting wearables. Estimated price $18 plus postage.

Rina Stepnaya's "Frivolite"

Eight full color plates among 110 pages of tatting. Basic instructions, split ring and beading techniques are the focus of the book. The patterns are heavily beaded necklaces and beaded collars.

Russian text with close-up detailed photos and numbered diagrams and excellent illustrations of the beading methods. Unfortunately, the book is paperback and printed on newsprint type paper. Estimated price $18 plus postage.

ANKARS Beaded tatting book

Mother Macaria sends a better translation for the Russian on the cover of this book:
"The title,"Chudesnie Mgnovenia", means "Wonderful Moments." In the lower left corner it reads: "New artistic technology in work with glass beads". Bicer specifically means a glass bead. It seems there are at least 7 different words for bead in Russian.

L V Demidova's "Frivolite"

Although the text is in Russian, the close-up detailed photos and numbered diagrams make tatting these patterns a pleasure! The patterns have a photo of each lace piece and a well illustrated diagram clearly marked with the stitch counts. This is not just a pattern book. It contains instructions in step by step illustrations showing all basics plus use of picot gauge, Josephine knots, block tatting, split ring and how to read diagrams, too.
