Jewelry and the Job Interview

Jewelry and the Job Interview
The day has finally arrived. You’ve been preparing for your job interview for weeks with the sole goal of making a lasting impression on the interviewer. You’ve decided that it’s totally worth it to pull out all of the stops in demonstrating what a qualified candidate you are. You’ve chosen to wear a tasteful black skirt suit, a crisp blue oxford shirt and mid- heel shoes. You stare at the reflection of yourself in the mirror, but then you discover that something looks like its missing. Your outfit is simply screaming for accessories. Which do you choose? Below are some helpful tips to make you stand out in only the best way.

1. Stay focused - By keeping things in perspective, you stay clear on what your focus should be--- landing the job. Conduct and present yourself in a polite and professional manner at all times. Be prepared to answer questions intelligently and thoroughly.

2. Now about appearances - You don’t want your outfit to take center stage during the interview, but know that it is okay to show some measure of style. As long as you remember that you’re not dressing for a date or a social event you should be fine. Try introducing a pop of color in a necklace or earrings. You can wear both, but do so bearing in mind that size does matter. Stay on the side of conservative when in doubt, and save your runway accessories for later, when you actually get the job.

3. What’s appropriate and what’s not - Chunky cuff bracelets’, clanging bracelets, large dangling earrings, anklets, huge rings, nose rings and multiple ear piercings are so not appropriate. Stud earrings, post earrings, a great jewelry necklace, and an understated watch are all appropriate. They don’t have to all be worn together. Limiting accessories for a job interview hasn’t been documented anywhere as a reason for not getting the job with the exception being that you’ve applied somewhere for a creative or fashion position.
