Cubicle Feng Shui

Guest Author - Lisa Shea

Many people spend most of their waking hours trapped within a fairly small cubicle. That can clearly drain your energy. How do you use feng shui to maximize the value and health of your time spent in your cubicle?

You may be stuck with the arrangement of your cubicle - but it's always good to ask, just in case. If at all possible, put yourself far from the door, and not in its path. That way good energy comes to you from the entrance. Try to position your back against the far wall, facing the door.

Good luck and energy is coming to you through that entrance. So you want to face it, if at all possible, and be aware of its influence.

I have always adored fish in my cubicles. There are many mini-fishtanks now that let you have a goldfish or two in a fairly small amount of space, with a filter and everything. These living creatures will keep you connected with nature and help you relax.

You want to keep this area as neat as possible. I realize it's easy to let papers pile up and think it doesn't matter. Even if you "know where everything is", that is distracting your mind from being free to be creative. It is having to use its vital energy to track objects. Instead, figure out a filing system that works for you. Whether it's in-boxes, hanging files, or another system, trial and error will find what is just right. And that cleanliness will then bring you success in all other areas.

Your cubicle is a mini world. Let it be as balanced as possible. If you have a lot of metal everywhere, bring in some wood. If everything is quite dark, bring in some lightness. Seek to personalize and customize your space to bring you the most joy.
