Dreadfully Ever After - a Review

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dreadfully Ever After, by Steve Hockensmith, is the third book in the Pride and Prejudice and Zombie series from Quirk Classics. In Dawn of the Dreadfuls, we are introduced to the Bennet girls and watch them grow up fighting the dreadfuls with more skill and finesse than most of the men of their day possess. In Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the unmentionables have returned to wreak havoc on England. The Bennet girls gladly take up the challenge of ridding England of these horrendous creatures. In the midst of all the zombie fighting mayhem, Elizabeth falls in love. Now in Dreadfully Ever After, Elizabeth is married to Mr. Darcy. She loves him, but longs to return to her zombie fighting days. As a married woman, it just isn't considered proper for her to pick up her weapons and go around killing. It is the role of her husband to protect her.

When the story opens, Elizabeth is doing something she really enjoys – killing a zombie. She and Darcy ware together fighting a group of them and Elizabeth is having the time of her life. Darcy sees something in his wife's eyes he has not seen for some time – a zest for life and a love of living. Once all the zombies are taken care of, they continue their walk and Darcy sees the youngest son of his steward step out of the forest just ahead of him. Curious as to what he wants and why he is so far away from his home, Darcy walks up to him and squatts down on his knees. The young master answers with a growl and only then does Darcy notice that the young boy's skin has a gray pallor to it and his head is tilted at an odd angle. By the time he takes it all in, this dreadful has sunk his teeth deep into Darcy's neck.

Elizabeth immediately takea care of the young zombie. Now she has a decision to make. Anyone bitten by a zombie will inevitably turn into a zombie. Their life is over. Whoever has been bitten must be killed, have his head chopped off, and then the body has to be burned. But Lady Catherine knows of a medicine that will slow down one's transformation into a dreadful. Elizabeth takes on the biggest challenge of her life. She loves Darcy, so she must do everything in her power to save him. She must also keep his true condition hidden from those around him, from those who would kill him without hesitation.

So she takes him to Lady Catherine's estate and begs for help. Lady Catherine has no love for Elizabeth. Will she do this for Darcy? Experience what goes through Darcy's mind as he is transforming into a zombie. See how those around him react to what he is going through. Journey with his wife and the rest of her family as they set out to get the one cure, not just a remedy to slow down his transformation, that is rumored to exist. Lies are being told to all of them, lies that could cost Darcy the promise of a return to his previous undead state, as well as his marriage.

Dreadfully Ever After is a thrilling, action-packed, hilarious conclusion to the Pride and Prejudice and Zombie series. This awesome book was sent to me free of charge by Quirk Classics. If you would like to read this book for yourself, I have provided an Amazon link below.
