Cod Liver Oil Band
Band mates and close friends Chris (mandolin), Nigel (singer), Melanie (fiddle-player) and Doug (bass) all bring their own unique sound to their upbeat group Cod Liver Oil. With a distinct Celtic sound, these musicians definitely stay true to their Eastern roots as each outgoing performer brings a great new life to the traditional songs and music while still showcasing their own unique sounds at every venue. Their party-ready beats, great songs and lyrics you can't help but sing along to, and overall fantasic musical sounds are original and sure to stick around for awhile!
Aside from just sounding good, Cod Liver Oil bandmembers Melanie and Doug are also well-schooled in their profession. Melanie began playing the fiddle in her elementary school's music group and went on to perfect her fiddling at the Gaelic College of Cape Breton. Bassist Doug graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with a degree in Music, and then went on to study percussion, theory and composition at Dalhousie University.
Formed in 2007 in Truro, Nova Scotia, the four talented musicians had originally been playing together for a few years before coming to the joint decision that their sound was good enough and in enough of a demand to showcase it to the public. After achieving that perfect sound and balance that they were looking for they created a tight-knit and energetic group that consistently stays true to the traditions and culture of Eastern Canada; yet somehow still standing out from the rest of the crowd.
Focused on both traditional and contemporary Celtic music, Cod Liver Oil has a constantly growing library of original songs that are influenced by multiple music styles and genres. With their fresh mixture of sounds they’re always sure to put on a toe-tapping, hand-clapping and dance-worthy show at every venue.
At pubs, open-mikes and fundraisers Cod Liver Oil is guaranteed to put on a great show that will surely make you get up and dance – or at least swing your beer mug around while singing along!
Listen to their fun-loving sound, check them out locally for yourself or contact them personally through their Facebook page, email or website for your own personal cd. In any case, be sure to grab a good dose of Cod Liver Oil because as the band’s saying goes: “It’s good for what ales ya!!”
