Multiple Personality Day & Other Peculiar HolidaysDo you prefer to write mysteries or romances, thrillers or fantasies, science fiction or historical fiction? Whatever genre you prefer to write in, I'm sure you can find a way to include one of the peculiar holidays that occur in March in your story. It will add a bit of something different to your story. Who was Casimir Pulaski and why does he deserve to have a holiday named in his honor? In how many different ways will you celebrate Multiple Personality Day? Do you have enough personalities to throw a party for them? How many names do you want to investigate on Fun Facts About Names Day? Casimir Pulaski Day - Even though this Polish emigrant saved the life of George Washington during the Revolutionary War, I confess that I did not recognize his name. He came to America when his country's forces failed to stop the Russians from dominating the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. As a general in the Continental Army, he trained the soldiers and the cavalry. Known as “the father of the American cavalry”, he died of wounds received in the Battle of Savannah. I'm sure one could write a riveting tale about this man. Just think about the dangers he may have faced in his home country, and the dangers he may have faced during his emigration. An historical fiction novel about the contributions this man made to our great nation should be written. Fun Facts About Names Day - On this day, you are supposed to do some fun research and find out little-known facts about names. Not only are there fun facts about your own name to discover, but there is a bunch of trivia about other famous names that is just waiting to be discovered. Did you know that Barbie's full name is Barbie Millicent Roberts? What about the Taco Bell dog? Her name is Gidget. How do you celebrate this day? If you love research, then you have an excuse to do some today. I'm sure you could spend an entire day uncovering fun and unusual facts about names. Then you could use the information you have unearthed to write a story, one about a mystery that has to do with a name and its really unusual history. Multiple Personality Day - Someone who has a split personality has two distinct personalities. If a person has multiple personalities, he or she has at least three, if not many more, different personalities. These personalities may be manipulative and sneaky, loving and seductive, prim and proper, or threatening and violent. It isn't known who created this day or why it was created. Perhaps the person who came up with it thought one of his or her other personalities would make the details of this day known. What about writers? We create so many different personalities on paper and our characters even speak to us. Would we be considered to have multiple personalities? What do you think? Why not write a story on this day's beginnings and why it was created? Should this day honor having multiple personalities or warn against it? Saint Piran's Day -Saint Piran is the patron saint of tin-miners, as well as the patron saint of Cornwall. The exact details of his life are sketchy, but there are many legends abounding about the man who grew up in Cape Clear, Ireland. Saint Piran is said to have had amazing magical powers. A group of kings supposedly feared him and had him thrown into the sea, only to have him come to shore at Perranporth. He is also said to have built a small chapel and had a badger, a fox, and a bear as his first disciples. Just as many legends abound about Saint Patrick, there are no shortage of them about Saint Piran. Why not pick one of these legends and write a story around it?
