Cereal Day & Other Offbeat HolidaysDo you prefer to write mysteries or romances, thrillers or fantasies, science fiction or historical fiction? Whatever genre you prefer to write in, I'm sure you can find a way to include one of these offbeat holidays that occur in March in your story. It will add a bit of something different to your story. Are you tempted to find out the meaning of your name on Learn What Your Name Means Day? How many bowls of cereal will you eat on Cereal Day? Will you be a winner on World Maths Day? Will your voice be heard on National Be Heard Day? Learn What Your Name Means Day - Have you ever researched the meaning of your name? Does the meaning of your name fit your personality? Does it describe you perfectly? Or is its meaning the complete opposite of your personality and how you behave? If you haven't looked up the meaning of your name(s) try looking in some baby name books that are online. There are several and they all tell the meanings of names. Once you have discovered what the meaning of your name is, look for the meaning of a name that you really, really like. Give this name to one of your characters and have them act completely opposite of the way you believe a person with this name should. World Maths Day - This is an holiday where students from all over the world play live mental mathematics games online. Students can play up to 50 games and each game lasts for one minute. The teachers can also play. If your children enjoy math, this may be a lot of fun for them. I wish I had known about while I was schooling my children. I know they would have enjoyed it. Why not write a story where there are prizes for those with the winning scores and punishments for those with the lowest scores. How awesome or how terrifying the prizes and punishments are depend upon the type of story you wish to write. Cereal Day - This day honors an invention made by William and John Kellogg in the late 1800s. They were doing experiments to create foods for their vegetarian diet when they discovered that cooked grains formed into a dough and pressed through rollers formed flakes. To be precise, they formed corn flakes. Cereal is now a very popular food in America. Why not celebrate this day by eating a bowl or two of your favorite cereal? Why not write a yummy historical fiction story about how these two brothers first created cereal? I think that would be the perfect way to celebrate this day. National Be Heard Day - This is the day for small businesses and entrepreneurs make their presence known and have their voices to be heard in among all of the large corporations. Use social networking sites such as Twitter, FaceBook, and Pinterest to promote your small business on this day and make your voice to be heard. Write a story about a small business owner who made his or her voice heard on this day and as a result, had his small business grow into a multimillion dollar one. Wow! Talk about a dream coming true. National Crown Roast of Pork Day - Why do we have a national holiday celebrating crown roast of pork? Your guess is as good as mine. There is no known reason for this tasty holiday. I would celebrate it by slow cooking a crown roast pork. Why not create a fun reason for this holiday? It would make an awesome children's story.
