Inchies Projects

Inchies are artwork that measure 1 inch by 1 inch, often made of cardboard but also of other materials like fabric. They’re fun and easy to make, and can be used in other projects as well.

To make an inchie, cut a cardboard square measuring 1 inch by 1 inch, and decorate it any way you want – paint it, draw on it, collage it. There’s only one rule to remember: your "canvas" has to be 1 by 1 inch in size. Make several inchies, as we’ll look at some projects that use inchies. For these projects it's best to have the inchies mounted on heavy cardboard so that they don't bend or crease with handling. It's also a good idea to seal each inchie with a protective coat like Diamond Glaze™, acrylic lacquer, or even clear nail polish.

Have fun!

Inchie Magnet
With a hot glue gun or strong glue, attach a craft magnet to the back of an inchie. You can also use a strip of magnetic tape or a piece of magnetic sheet cut down to size – in both these cases PVA (white) glue will suffice. When they're not keeping reminders and photos on your ref door, inchie magnets are fun to display – you can rearrange them on your ref door anytime you want for a fresh look!

Inchie Clothespin
Dress up a clothespin and use it to hang a favorite photo on a line, or to keep scraps of paper together. Take a wood spring-type clothespin and glue an inchie on one side with a hot glue gun or strong glue, leaving enough space at the top of the handle for pressing the clothespin. Let dry. You can also paint the clothespin in a matching color and let it dry before gluing on the inchie.

Inchie Gift Topper
Glam up a gift! Give a beribboned gift some extra glamour by attaching an inchie to the bow. Punch a small hole in a corner or one side of an inchie and thread a short length of embroidery floss, narrow ribbon or wire wrap through it. Secure the inchie to the bow. You can also add the recipient's initials or name to the inchie to take the place of the gift tag.

Alternatively, use some double-sided foam tape or glue dots to stick an inchie to a gift tag for added dimension.

Inchie Charm Necklace
First, make an inchie charm. Punch a hole in an inchie and add a hanger – a jump ring, bail or a bit of looped wire, and voila – inchie charm! Now turn your inchie charm into a necklace: string it onto a chain for some pretty eye-catching neckwear!

Inchie Dangle Earrings
Inchie dangle earrings are just as easy to make. Add inchie charms to hook earrings for a one-of-a-kind pair. The inchies don't even have to be exactly the same, so you can have a funky pair to show off!
