Playing for Keeps - a Review

Playing for Keeps: A Neighbor from Hell is a humorous, light romance novel for adults by R.L. Mathewson. Have you ever wished that your neighbor would just move far away from you? Have you ever had a neighbor that you wouldn't even wish on your worst enemy?

Meet Haley and Jason. Both are teachers, both are single, and both work at the same school. They didn't really know each other, but now they are neighbors. Haley has lived in her house for years, Jason is the new neighbor.

You grow to love the wonderfully developed characters of Haley and Jason. Jason is the bad boy. The first sight Haley has of her new neighbor, he is relieving himself on a tree in his front yard. She decides then and there that she wants nothing to do with him. But he is so cute!

Haley is a little rich girl who wants to make her own way in life. She does not want to be and she refuses to be dependent on her family's wealth. Of course, her family is snotty and they think themselves to good to associate with 'normal' people. No one of them remembers her birthday or anything else about her. Her grandmother is the only exception, the only one who sees things the way Haley does.

Haley's dislike of Jason boils over when he kills the flowers she grew from bulbs her beloved grandmother gave her. This is just too much. Her already bad day explodes and she can take no more. She storms over into his yard and proceeds to let him have it. From this stormy meeting, they develop a unique friendship, one that gradually develops into something much deeper than either one of them intends or realizes until it is too late.

Jason's family doesn't believe him when he shows up at a family dinner with Haley and tells them she is his girlfriend, but they are absolutely crazy about her and tell him that he needs to date a girl like her.

Haley's family does not like him. They don't think he is good enough for her. They want her to hook up with some rich snob that is part of the same social class they are. Her grandmother is the only one who pays any mind to Jason at all.

Watch as Haley and Jason got through a courtship full of sweetness, tenderness, humor, heartache, and miscommunication. Every one has doubts about this relationship - their friends, their families, even Haley and Jason have doubts. Will their relationship fade away or will it blossom into something that is for keeps? Once I was a few chapters into the story, it became really hard to quit reading. I read the entire book in just two days.

R.L. Mathewson spins an enchanting adult contemporary romance story that is entertaining and well worth reading. I received my copy of this ebook free from the author. If you would like your own copy of this book to read and enjoy, I have provided an Amazon link below for you.
