New Features Lightroom 4

New Features Lightroom 4
With the large amount of printers and digital monitors, it's extremely difficult to anticipate how your photo will look on these devices. Now, with Lightroom 4 we have the Soft Proofing feature that previews how the photo will appear on color-profiled printers and color-managed monitors. Within the Soft Proofing menu in the Histogram, you can click on the Monitor Gamut Warning button to see which areas contain problem color for digital monitors. The Destination Gamut Warning button will display problem areas for prints.

Map

It is very common for digital cameras and photo editing software to store the date when the photo was taken. Now, Lightroom 4 can also store the location and use this information to search and organize your photos. Within the Google maps based Map module, you can search for any location and the results will be displayed as a pin on the map. You can then drag a thumbnail of any photo to the pin's location and that location will be stored with the image. A small icon will appear on the thumbnail indicating that the location was stored. When you click the pin on the map, you will see a popup of all the thumbnails associated with that location.

Book

Digital books have become extremely popular as both a hobby craft and as a marketing tool. The Book module makes photo book creation simple with your choice of predesigned or custom layouts. Adding your photos to the layout is as simple as dragging and dropping thumbnails from the filmstrip at the bottom of the workspace. When adding text pages and captions, you have your choice of fonts, styles, text size and opacity. With the new easy digital and print publishing from the Lightroom workspace, you can export your photo book as a PDF or upload it to Blurb. After your book layout is complete, the Blurb uploader dialog will give you an estimate of the final cost to print the book based on your choice of cover and paper type.

Slideshow

The Slideshow module is exactly what you would expect. When creating slideshows, you have your choice to add borders, drop shadows and overlays such as a watermark, star ratings and text. You can create an Intro and Ending screen and add soundtracks. The preset transitions give you professional results.

Print

The Print module has several controls for printing both single images and contact sheets. As you would expect, you can set print resolution, add simple adjustments and control color management.

Web

The Web module helps you create a professional web gallery. You have a choice of layout styles, color palette, watermarking and thumbnail details. You will enter the site and ftp information directly in Lightroom.
