It was one of the first sites to offer extended sizes beyond a 4x for plus size lingerie, clubwear, and costumes. Selection: As the name suggests, Big Gals Lingerie offers lingerie such as babydolls, chemises, hosiery, bustiers and corsets, teddies, camis, peignoirs, bras, garter belts and body stockings. But what the name does not tell you is that they offer plus size swimwear (including bikinis), clubwear, and costumes.Sizing: The majority of their "lingerie" section seems to be in the 1x to 3x range but they have a nice selection of extended sizes up to 12x in their clubwear and swimwear. There are way more "queen" sized items than I expected to see.
Styling: This is definitely not your grandmother's kind of lingerie. There is flashy, there is titillating, and there is even some trashy but there are also some every day sleepwear options. I think it is safe to say there is something for everyone's taste.
Pricing: Big Gals Lingerie prices are affordable to moderately priced. It is easy to find some sexy lingerie to buy under $30. The upper price are more for the custom clubwear around $99 and specialty costumes (must see!) which hit as high at $170.
Availability: They ship within the United States, Canada and internationally. Shipping rates within the U.S. are very reasonable (from $6 to $10). There are two options for international shoppers. They accept Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, and money orders.
Overall Impression: I find the headings a bit confusing or perhaps my perception of what the categories are is off -- to me many of the items under the "clubwear" heading are actually lingerie. So if you go looking for lingerie, do not discount the clubwear section as there are many plausible alternatives to traditional teddies there.
I find the site a bit dated as far as the online shopping experience goes and some of the images have the site's URL printed on them which is tacky for a business site. But it is important to keep in mind that there is not a big company behind this business. As it stands, products are easy to find, images are easy to look at, they use plus size models on the images they produce, and the shopping cart is easy to add things too and check out. I would like to see a shop by size category to avoid having to surf through queen sizes and everything below 3x. The testimonials could also use an update.
I love that the majority of the costumes are made to order (anything over the 4x sizing) -- really there are so many options for extended sizes -- in fact probably the biggest selection for extended sizes anywhere.
Big Gals Lingerie was one of the first sites to sell plus size bikinis (some of the best looking ones!), even when it was out of "fashion", so if you have been looking for one they should be your first stop.
