Navigation For Book App - Kwik 2 Project

Navigation For Book App - Kwik 2 Project
Now that we have begun our first project, we can start working on a few decisions for our book. Most of you will want the cover of your book to be the opening page, but the steps we follow to create a page for our book will be the same if you choose to use a splash or branding page. In this tutorial, we will discuss the basic navigation for our book and also take a look at the Kwik panel interface.

The navigation for our book app will be simple. We will have the Pages button on every page that will open the navigational menu and let the reader jump to any page. Instead of the default swipe gesture, we will use the Next and Back buttons to move between individual pages. The Info button will open a page containing the list of credits, a link to your website and any other information your may wish to include. The Pages button will open your choice of either a custom made index page containing links to each of the pages in the book or the default thumbnailed pages strip generated by Kwik. Finally, the Music button will toggle the background music on and off.

Let's open Photoshop and then open our project from the Kwik panel. Because we don't have our project open yet, the Kwik panel displays the Kwik logo.

  1. To open our project, click the Open Project icon. Browse to your LearnKwik folder and to the Template folder inside.

  2. Click on the Template.kwk file.

As you can see, we have more options in the Kwik panel now that we have our project open. The first row of icons in the Kwik panel are the category icons. As we select each category icon, we will get a different set of tools below. Let's take a look at each category. You may wish to print this list of screenshots of the Kwik 2 panel.

  • Project and Pages
The tools under this category are for setting the properties for projects as well as the individual pages in the project.

  • Layers and Replacements
This set of tools is for working on the layers for each page. You will use these tools to add content and set options for each layer.

  • Interactions
This category of tools will be used to add interactive elements to the pages.

  • Animations
You will use the tools in this category to add simple animations to the pages, such a linear and path animations.

  • Physics
These tools will help you add the built-in physics to your pages.

As you can see, most of the process of building your book app is working on individual pages and the layers in each page. You have many features that you can add to the pages of your book app and we will be taking a look at them all as we continue to build the book.
