Skolthan started just a bit slow for me, but once it picked up, I found it impossible to put down. This paranormal thriller about the struggle between good and evil won’t allow you to put it down until the final word has been read.
Hilda lives alone in a primitive cottage. Her warlock ex-husband has gone away. He could possibly even be dead. She love Joshua deeply, but he was only after one thing from Hilda. He wanted a piece of knowledge she possessed. He wanted to know how to enter Skolthan, a Garden of Eden like paradise, but Hilda would not divulge the wanted information.
Her daughter, Abigail, is now married with children of her own. Abigail had always been closer to her dad than to her mom. Joshua used to take his daughter with him on trips to the island from which you could enter Skolthan.
Hilda is happy by herself, but she is a bit lonely. One day she encounters a young lady who seems to be lost. Turns out she is homeless. Hilda feels sorry for Camilla and invites her to stay. Such a sweet, innocent, and hopeful gesture on Hilda’s part, sets in course a chain of events that she could not have foreseen.
Joshua, still alive and determined to gain access to Skolthan, is in cahoots with Alice, a powerful black witch whom everyone simply knows as a midwife. Joshua and Alice are simply using this pregnant young lady as their pawn to get the information from Hilda. They also want Camilla's baby. But will Abigail allow this to happen? Or will she step in and, along with her mother, save Skolthan from the evil that wants to invade it?
Although the story had a bit of a slow start, once things begin to happen, it never slows down. While Hilda’s magic seems to be with plants and herbs, and the making of wine from elder flowers, it starkly contrasts with the dark magic of her ex-husband's new significant other.
This story written by Damaris West shows an intense battle between good and evil will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you like stories of magic, witches, and warlocks, you will love this book. I will not say that this book has a happy ending, but the ending is satisfactory. You won’t be sorry you read the book.
