Services Set for Father of Mary Mary
Elder Eddie Atkins, father to sisters Erica and Tina Campbell, also known as the gospel singing duo Mary Mary, died recently after a long battle with cancer. The duo announced his death via Twitter.
On their @therealmarymary Twitter feed they stated “Our hearts are heavy but we can rejoice knowing our father knew we loved him. RIP Elder Eddie A Atkins Jr. Rest in the arms of Jesus Daddy.”
A Birthday Memorial Music Celebration for Elder Atkins Jr., will be held on Sunday, June 30th at 7pm at Greater Emmanuel Temple 3740 Imperial Hwy, Lynwood, CA 90262.
Elder Atkins is described as loving father on the WeTV website for the self-titled reality show, Mary Mary and was considered the strongest male member of the family and patriarch. He was married to his ex-wife and mother of their 9 children Honey three times.
As their father and a community leader & youth minister, Mr. Atkins laid the foundation for Erica & Tina's broad reaching musical platform. His direction and guidance allowed them to deliver their brand of gospel music not just to the church but to the masses.
The sisters burst on the scene in 2000 with their hit single “Shackles (Praise You)” and have dominated the Gospel industry ever since. The music of Mary Mary is enjoyed by listeners everywhere and the multiple Grammy award winners have enjoyed several years of success including making their mark on the small screen, completing a second season of their reality WE TV series.
I have interviewed them on several occasions and each time they have spoken very lovingly about their mother and father. Please keep them and the entire Atkins family in your prayers.
