Is it Authentic, or Is it Not?

Guest Author - Jennifer L. Thompson

This sweepstakes is sure to be an exciting adventure for the lucky winner. The Grand Prize package offers $50,000 in the form of a check, plus an additional $25,000 donated to a charitable cause to be chosen by the winner from the sponsor's list of charities. Along with this, the Grand Prize Winner and a guest will be whisked away for a seven-day/six night luxury vacation at the Starwood Hotel and Resort s/he chooses, which includes round-trip airfare... but wait! There's more! The winner will also be given what is still claimed to be an authentic English title, such as "Lord" or "Lady", according to the current legislation (so it could also be something like "Dame" if you already happen to be married to a baronet, or to a true knight in shining armor).

Though the cash and donation alone would be an exciting win, and the vacation would certainly be an outstanding way to spend a week, there is still some disappointment for someone who knows what the benefits of holding an actual English title would do. Apparently, in this case, it would do nothing... or at least, that's what they say. The title is stated in the official rules to be "just for show", and not something that can be passed on to heirs, such as the authentic title would be... but wait! There's more! The terms and benefits of whichever title is gifted to the recipient will still be solely determined by its sponsor. So, the basic understanding inferred is that this is the sponsor's title, utilizing an English title sub-system, and not a real and authentic English title with its authentic benefits.

So, apparently, after they've wined you and dined you with lots of cash and brought you on an exciting and luxurious trip to some unknown destination, you might end up being "Lady Showtime" with whatever benefits they've decided to give you after all that, if any at all, but who could know, unless you're the winner of this one? So, for the cynic, this could be saying "let's drag you in with a carrot and then stick you with it...", though, of course, we all know this would not make good business sense. For this reason, I don't understand why it's in here, since it is apparently only here for promoting the show "The Tudors", and yet they are stating that it literally does nothing for the recipient. So, for this portion of the Grand Prize, I'd like to see more in-depth information as to what this entails before someone's acceptance of these things.

In addition to these Grand Prize offerings, with a total retail value of $80,000, weekly prizes valued at $500 each are also being awarded. Currently, week five is starting with week eight being the final one. This sweepstakes ends May 23, 2008, enter once weekly. Find out more HERE
