When the days get super long and there doesn’t seem to be enough time to cook dinner, those drive-through windows are a tempting solution. With recent studies showing an increase in obesity in America, one wonders if it’s possible to eat healthful foods while on the run.

But a moratorium on french fries? Cynthia Sass, a senior dietitian at the University of Southern Florida and a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, says “Nutrition is not all or nothing; it’s about balance.”
Some tips:
Say no to supersizing. Have the small-size fries and water. Chicken (grilled or as nuggets) is better than a burger. Cut down on your carbohydrate intake and chuck the bun.
Let the grocer do the work. Prewashed, precut veggies and fruits abound in the produce section these days. Look for baby carrots, celery and easily totable fruits like apples and bananas.
Raisins aren’t the only dried fruits. Try cherries, plums, figs, peaches or blueberries.
You don’t have to completely abandon fast-food restaurants. Many now offer salads, fruit and yogurt combinations, low-fat subs and veggie burgers.
