GOP website

Guest Author - Stacy Wiegman

The GOP website has a lot of great information, including a special section on GOP women. The Democratic Party, on the other hand, doesn't have such a section for women. Who ever said that Republicans aren't the party of inclusion?

If you've never looked at the Republican Party website, you should. The web address is www.gop.com. Prominently at the top, you will see a tab for "RNC women." When you look at that section, it features women running for office this fall, and there are a lot.

You can even join the group and volunteer from the site. And that's what we all need to do because volunteers are still critical for elections, even with the media and the internet having such influence. Talking about candidate who excite you to everyone you meet makes a difference.

In the last presidential election, Obama volunteers were told to "get in people's faces." I wouldn't go that far and tell you to do that because I don't believe in attacking other people's ideologies. But I do think that at least talking about who you support and why is important.

More than anything, knowing the platform of the party when you're deciding who to support really matters. We've seen how emotional some people get about politics, and all reason goes out the window. A smart person's vote starts with his or her moral beliefs, and they combine that with the party's and the candidates' stated intentions.

I actually read the Democratic Party's platform before major elections. While sometimes it pains me to do so, I do it because I base my votes on what the parties say they are for and what the candidates say they will do. I do not base it on who I like or who speaks better than the others.

So back to the GOP website. This is where you can find a wealth of information on the candidates across the country as well as the party platform. And I think what is really moving is the section on "Heroes." The party has a very proud history, including Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.

It really is a "Grand Old Party."
