How to Write and Sell Travel Articles

How to Write and Sell Travel Articles
Do you want to travel the world? Or just explore Spain? Often the very thing that limits our ability to travel as far and wide as we’d like to, is one of the things we could gain by travelling. And that one thing is money, not money as in becoming rich but money as in an income or travel-writng profession that would enable you to fulfill that passion of globe-trotting or county roaming.

Do you have a yearning to enjoy the world but make that travel experience pay for itself? I have a passion for Spain and my desire is to cover it all. I’d like to stay at and review every parador hotel and write a book on paradors.
I’d like to visit every spa in Spain and write about them all. I’d like to sell more articles, feel more confident and make a living at writing, what about you?

I just been reading How to Write and Sell Travel Articles by Cathy Smith, and I’ve learnt a lot. The book covered much of what I knew and have read before, but I always think that it’s good to be reminded. In fact the more experience you gain the more you need to re-read the basics and implement different facets of the business.

Cathy’s book is a good all-rounder for those just beginning a writing career and need to be spoon-fed, for others at the toddling stage, and for runners too! It’s always a boost to the confidence and ego to learn from a professional.

I’m motivated by Cathy to step out of my comfort zone and try some new ways of selling and promoting my writing.

The book How to Write and Sell Travel Articles was first published in 1992 by Allison & Busby in the UK and was twice on the best seller list of the British newspaper The Independent. The book has now been completely revised and updated, to include the way the internet has changed the way of a freelance writer.

The most important piece of advice I myself take away from this work is persistence, if you want to be a Writer, write, if you want to be a successful writer who constantly sells their work then you have to sell yourself. Selling yourself and your work is more important than the words on the paper or screen. If an editor doesn’t see them then they can’t be bought or used.

Pick up a copy of Cathy’s book, get a load of encouragement for a new way of life, come to Spain and write all about it, and then sell that work!
