Merry Christmas!

I hope you all had an enjoyable Thanksgiving. If you are not too tired of turkey, I have a wonderful Turkey Salad Recipe you will want to try. It's perfect for a Saturday lunch and will help to get rid of your turkey leftovers in the freezer in a delicious way.

Last month I wrote an article titled Practical Patience. Well, my patience was recently tested and I would love to tell you that I came through with flying colors, but I fear that I did not. I went to the bank on my lunch hour, 11:30 to 12:30 "Take an early lunch if you have will accomplish more." I thought, "Wonderful, I will be out of this bank in a hot minute". Unfortunately, I was at a trainee's window. Even more unfortunate, among the checks to be deposited were ten stock dividend checks. Those of you who are familiar with these checks know that if you do not own large blocks of stock, your dividend checks are often one dollar or less. I had two checks for two cents each. I spent more than 15 minutes waiting for my bank transaction to be completed. I could not read my magazine, "bring a book or crossword puzzle", I was too busy answering questions. I was over the top annoyed and although I tried to conceal my annoyance, I could feel the trainee's supervisor watching me. Yes. I did purse my lips and maybe I grimaced a bit, but I did remember to smile and say thank you because I was once a trainee. As I walked out of the bank, I took a deep breath and prayed that this incident would not ruin my day. That being said, I guess I need to remember that no advice is fool proof.

I love candles and enjoy them most when I have several in my living room and bedroom. I just ordered two rose scented candles from a coworker and will take them with me when I go away for the Christmas holiday. I use candles to make hotel rooms more personal. Read Candle Safety for the Holidays before you set the mood.

Is it your responsibility to buy Christmas or holiday toys for young children this year? Check out the Toy Safety for Children article, it gives you a few hints to help keep certain toys out of reach of small hands. Check out the WATCH (World Against Toys Causing Harm) site. These are the folks who gives us the heads up on possibly dangerous toys for the current year. Speaking of Christmas and holidays you can start a tradition and Make Salt Clay Christmas Ornaments for your tree.

Latkes may be special for Jewish holidays, but they are great anytime. They are a real treat for breakfast. I am not a cold cereal person. I need what I refer to as a "farm girl" breakfast. I am happy with leftovers from last night's dinner and this Potato and Spinach Latkes Recipe fill the bill just fine. Pop one in the microwave and have a cup of tea.

I had the opportunity to interview author Monique R. Brown who wrote It's A Sistah Thing - A Guide to Understanding and Dealing Fibroids for Black Women. This up-close and personal interview with Ms. Brown reveals her journey to become free of pain.

"With visions of sugar plums" Just what are sugar plums anyway? Last year I found out that there really is a recipe for this candy. My friend Lata Budhrani, founder of Dot Com Women was gracious enough to share her recipe with the women of DCW. Lata gave me the go-ahead to share this delightful No-Bake Sugar Plums Recipe with Work and Family readers also. Thanks Lata. Look for this recipe next week, along with these articles during the rest of the month, Holiday Parties at Work; Alcohol and Holiday Fun; A Visit From St. Nick - Again!; and a recipe for Hoppin' John, for New Years Day (said to bring you good luck for the new year). Whether you celebrate the holidays or not, everyone can use a little more good luck.
