Job Statistics on Women

According to the U.S. Census Bureau sixty-three percent of tax preparers are women. I was very surprised to read this.

However, I was not surprised to learn that most women still occupy jobs in what has been called The Pink Ghetto, and with good reason. Although we (woman) are no longer surprised when we learn that a woman is head of a huge corporation, we are still very pleased. It is still the norm to find a man the the top.

Demographics are changing but there is still job categories that are largely female.

Here are further figures from the U.S. Census Bureau: ninety-seven percent of secretaries and administrative assistants are female, eighty-three percent of travel agents are female. It is not surprising that fifty-seven percent of advertising and promotions managers, public relations managers, accountants and auditors are women. For some reason, these are pretty much a womans domain. I did not see numbers on human resource managers but my guess is those numbers are high as well.

Additional statistics by numbers:

• The number of female lawyers: 250,000.

• The number of female physicians and surgeons: 189,000.

• The number of female legislators: 6,000.

• The number of female police officers: 78,000.

• The number of female firefighters: 8,500.
