Pop Treats - Backstreet Boys, Push Play, and More

It’s that time again…it’s time for a musical snack consisting of some of pop music’s yummiest tunes. These four ‘must download’ tunes are all you need to keep your iPod satisfied through the rest of the week. Get your pop fix this week with songs from the Backstreet Boys, Esmée Denters, Push Play, and Colbie Caillat. Enjoy!

Backstreet Boys – Straight Through My Heart

“Straight Through My Heart” is like a delicious dessert sampler platter; the boys have combined their unmistakable beautiful vocals and signature sound with a fresh approach that doesn’t feel forced or contrived. The Backstreet Boys have managed to step out with a song that can stand on its own with catchy lyrics and a solid beat that will get even non-fans singing along and dancing. This song is definitely a promising glimpse of what’s to come from their new album this fall. Grown up teenyboppers everywhere are pushing their lips together in an effort to silence their squeals of excitement – or at least that’s what I like to think, since I really don’t want to be the only one. Now stop giving me weird looks, and go enjoy your musical dessert.

Esmée Denters – “Outta Here”

There is chocolate, and then there is spicy chocolate. On a platter filled with perfectly satisfying and tasty pop songs “Outta Here” from Esmée Denters is definitely the spicy chocolate in the bunch. Esmée showcases her fierce vocals on this song with a pinch of attitude. Heartbroken? “Outta Here” is just what the love doctor ordered. Don’t spend another second curled up in a ball listening to slow tear-inducing love songs. Get up and move your body to the beat, and scream along with the lyrics if it helps. Checking into heartbreak hotel is never fun, but if you just keep moving you will eventually get outta there. Promise.

Push Play – “Midnight Romeo”

When listening to “Midnight Romeo” from Push Play for the first time your initial reaction is something along the lines of ‘I like this’. Halfway through the song your reaction is upgraded to ‘I really like this’ with emphasis on the ‘really’. The beat catches you, the hot vocals keep you, and the lyrics encourage delusional behavior; because obviously they are talking to you. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that you Googled them during your break only to find that they are pretty easy on the eyes too. That’s not the point though. The point is that you’ve just found a new song to chair dance along to in your cubicle. Score! Or maybe instead of spending your break on Google you could go outside, sit on a park bench with a sno-cone in hand, and bench dance along to the song. Either way will work.

Colbie Caillat – “Fallin’ For You”

So you’ve found the perfect guy or gal and now you find yourself floating around in a dreamy state up on Cloud 9. Every time you think of them you bite your lower lip and fight back that silly grin. You’re also obsessively checking your phone for text messages from them…but we won’t talk about that. You know what you need? You need a song. Colbie Caillat’s “Fallin’ For You” reminds me of gentle summer breezes, homemade cookie dough, and pink lemonade–the perfect combination if you’ve been bitten by the love bug.
