Red Carpet Updos for the Prom

Guest Author - Lynne Chapman

These celebrity hair styles are perfect for prom – sophisticated and up-to-date. One of them is right for your hair and each one is easy to create.
Smooth and sleek is mood of this updo. It is cool and sophisticated. It has the look of Gwenyth Paltrow or Jennifer Lopez. The style is easily done in long straight hair. Apply shine serum while your hair is wet. Blow it dry using a paddle brush to keep it very straight. When your hair is completely dry, use a flat iron to give it a high gloss shine.. Brush all of your hair back to the nape of your neck and secure it with a covered elastic band. Wrap the ends of your hair around the band to form a bun and anchor them with bobby pins that hide under the bun. Smooth down any fly-aways and spray with firm hold hair spray. The key to this style is keeping it ultra smooth and very shiny.
This style is sexy and touchable. For a romantic style and the look of Angelina Jolie, add fullness and wave to your hair. For this style, scrunch your hair while drying it to put in as much body as possible. If scrunching doesn’t work for you, you can also set your hair on small hot rollers to form waves. After your hair is dry, back brush the top and use your fingers to comb it back into a loose elastic band. Cover the band by wrapping strands of hair around it and securing them with bobby pins. Lightly smooth the top of your hair – being careful to keep the fullness and a few waves in. The key to this style is keeping it full and a little messy.
Is your hair medium length and layered? You can have a Red Carpet Updo too. Apply body building mousse or hair gel to give your style staying power. Blow your hair dry using a round brush. Use small hot rollers in the back to create a cluster of small curls. Back brush your hair on top for fullness. Form a full bang to one side. Keep it full and lifted by spraying hair spray underneath it. Using your fingers, comb your hair toward the back of your head. Pin the cluster of curls in using bobby pins formed in a circle. Allow the curls to cover the pins. Spray the entire hairstyle with firm hold hair spray. Think Carrie Underwood for this soft and feminine updo.
