The Eternal Ones Book Review
In New York, Haven meets Iain Morrow and is swept into an epic love affair that feels both deeply fated and terribly dangerous. Iain is suspected of murdering a rock star and Haven wonders, could he have murdered her in a past life? She visits the Ouroboros Society and discovers a murky world of reincarnation that stretches across millennia. Haven must discover the secrets hidden in her past lives, and loves before all is lost and the cycle begins again.
The premise for this story is extremely intriguing. The plot is great and the story is great but the characters are a little…flaky. For instance, Haven, our main character, is extremely naïve. She believes anything she is told by everyone she encounters and it gets rather annoying after she gets to New York. I know teenage girls can be naïve and often do really dumb things but in a story like this one, you’d hope the teen girl would have a little more common sense then Haven does. I found myself saying “you cannot be this stupid Haven!” during several of the scenes in New York. Also before Haven gets to New York to find Ian, Miller makes Ian to be this big shot actor but once we meet Ian in person there is hardly any mention of his fame except for a few scenes with paparazzi photographers waiting outside of his door.
I love the reincarnation equals eternal love because the young adult vampire books are starting to follow a cookie cutter pattern ever since the Twilight saga became a sensation. I think Miller has started a potential hot trend here despite the weakness of characters in this novel.
